Biography

Dilan is the only son of Marshall Perera, a lawyer and Daya Perera, an English teacher who served in government schools. The politics of the father who was a member of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) and a mother who was an energetic trade union activist and a social worker, shaped Dilan’s and his only sibling Kisholi’s minds at a very young age on social justice and equality.

Against Corruption and Bribery

In 1994, Dilan along with a group of young politicians and parliamentarians in the ruling party formed a ginger group within the Government and named it the “Mulberry Group” with the objective of fighting corruption within the Government. The “Mulberry Group” comprised young blood like Dilan Perera, Nalanda Ellawala, Mahinda Amaraweera, T.B. Ekanayake, Janaka Tennakoon, Dulles Alahapperuma, Ravi Karunanayake and Kesaralal Gunesekere. Overseas Sri Lankans taken more seriously and treated with more respect

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) is the foremost organization looking after the welfare aspects of Sri Lanka’s migrant workers and their families that deals with foreign employment. Its mandate encompasses promotion and protection of migrants by setting standards and approving or rejecting the contracts provided by foreign employers to Sri Lankan migrants, licensing recruiting agents, and operating programs to protect Sri Lankan migrants and their families.
